Here are a few tips to keep your print looking its best!
Avoid excessive light Whilst pigment prints are quite lightfast, they do not tolerate excessive exposure or UV light very well. So ensure when chosing your new artworks new home, that it's displayed somewhere that doesnt get extended periods of sunlgiht. Ideal brightness for display is anywhere up to arounf 120 lux. Gold standard care is use UV glass when framing, however this is not always possible if on a budget.
Avoid acids and oils These are produced continuously by our skin, (namely our fingertips!) Therefore, it's best to avoid touching your artwork altogether, or if unavoidable, washing your hands with a mild soap then drying before handling. As a bare minimum, avoid touching any printed surfaces of the image if you can.
Most wood products and plastics are manufactured or treated with some form of acid or solvent. When framing, ensure your framing materials (tape, backing/mounting board etc) are free from these chemicals to avoid discolouration and/or fading.
Avoid excessive heat and humidity Around 22°C is the ideal temperature for your print with a relative humidity below 50%. Living in Australia, its near impossible to maintain optimum conditions, and its not the end of the world if you dont live in a climate controlled castle. Simply use these numbers as a guide, and it might help you decide on an appropriate location to display your new artwork.
